Chillicothe Parents Guide

This section provides a brief overview of how you can survive and thrive as a wrestling parent.

Welcome to Wrestling

You may not get to wear the singlet but you are a member of the team. Our goal is to assist your child in obtaining their goals and become a productive member of the community and the team. Your partnership is critical to this success.

Step One: Get involved

Our team structure works based on parental involvement. We may have needs such as water, Gatorade, healthy food snacks, ridesharing, etc. These are opportunities for your involvement. It takes many hands to keep the machine moving.

Step Two: Be a calm, positive support system

Your child will need your support. Wrestling is a physically exhausting and mentally tough sport. They will lose matches. Set the example on how to handle these challenges. Emotionally supporting these children during tough times is as important as celebrating the wins. I promise they will remember the support more than the celebration. It matters.

Step Three: Set the example

Every match and tournament is an example for young men and women to see how to handle themselves. Everyone has a story about a parent “losing it” at a match or tournament. Our program prides itself on teaching young men and women how to handle themselves not only in wrestling but in life. Set the example and show them what they should look like.
